World Lupus Day 2024 Highlights

World Lupus Day 2024 Highlights

Last Friday (10th May) was World Lupus Day. This awareness day focusses on the need for increased public awareness and understanding of lupus, increased research into the causes and to look for a cure for lupus, and improved diagnosis times and treatment of lupus within the medical profession. We are truly grateful for your support and appreciate all the awareness events and fundraisers which took place on World Lupus Day and over the weekend. Read on to find out what some of our supporters got up to:

We kicked off world lupus day events on Saturday 4th of May for our annual ‘Go That Extra Mile’ London walk. This is where we walk a total of four miles (three miles then add a fourth!) around London starting at Trafalgar Square, passing Buckingham Palace and ending in Covent Garden. Thank you to everybody who attended and made the day a success!

On World Lupus Day itself, we launched a brand new diagnosis awareness video featuring LUPUS UK ambassadors and volunteers Beth, Khiry and Maryann. They kindly shared their experiences receiving a diagnosis for lupus, their thoughts and emotions at the time, and some things they found helpful afterwards. You can watch the video HERE.  We will be hosting a Webinar on Tuesday 21st May where Beth, Khiry and Maryann will discuss their diagnosis experience and answer your questions.

The webinar is free to join and will take place on Tuesday 21st May at 6:00pm – 7:30pm (BST). ZOOM Webinar ID: 854 8192 8753.

On Saturday 11th May, we held a Lupus Information Day in Edinburgh! Thank you to everybody who attended – It was wonderful to meet so many of you and hear about your experiences living with lupus. Special thanks to our amazing guest speakers: Dr Helen Harris, Dr Caroline Whymark, Joanne Dobson and Dervil Dockrell for their insightful talks on The Lupus Drug Pipeline, Pain Management and Fatigue.

Thank you to all our supporters who are currently taking part in our 10-day virtual challenge for World Lupus Day. This challenge consists of setting yourself a task to complete for 10 consecutive days, whether that be baking, walking, painting or something else, the choice is yours! Gena, a supporter of LUPUS UK, is completing this challenge for the third year in a row! Donate to Gena’s fundraiser HERE
